Celebrate Pride Month on the Rooftop
June in Phuket hits differently. The sun's out, the streets get louder, and the rainbow flags start flying high. Locals, travellers, and TWIST.

June in Phuket hits different.
The monsoon threatens but rarely delivers. The beaches thin out as the low season settles in. And rainbow flags start appearing in unexpected places — café windows, hotel lobbies, and yes, 19 floors above Old Town at TWIST.
Phuket's LGBTQ+ History
Before we talk about this year's celebrations, some context: Phuket has quietly been one of Southeast Asia's most welcoming destinations for LGBTQ+ travelers for decades. Long before marriage equality debates reached Thailand's parliament, Patong's Paradise Complex was hosting visitors from around the world.
But Pride isn't just about nightclubs. It's about visibility in everyday spaces — restaurants, hotels, rooftop bars. Places where being yourself isn't a novelty but a given.
Why TWIST Celebrates
Q: Why does a rooftop bar celebrate Pride Month?
Because celebration isn't neutral. When a business chooses to acknowledge Pride, it sends a message to both guests and staff: you're welcome here, exactly as you are.
Our team includes members from across the LGBTQ+ spectrum — bartenders, servers, kitchen staff, management. Pride Month gives us a chance to celebrate them publicly, not just privately.

This Year's Events
Throughout June, we're hosting a series of events that blend celebration with substance:
Pride Kickoff Party (June 1)
Rainbow cocktails, local DJ, and a sunset toast to diversity. Free entry, festive dress encouraged.
LGBTQ+ History Night (June 15)
A more reflective evening with a local historian sharing stories of Phuket's queer community through the decades. Tickets include canapés and a signature drink.
Pride Rooftop Gala (June 29)
Our main event — a full evening of music, dancing, and celebration. Proceeds benefit Phuket's LGBTQ+ youth support organization.
The Cocktails
Our bar team created three special cocktails for the month:
- ◆**The Rainbow** — Seven-layer visual spectacle (Instagram ready, actually delicious)
- ◆**Proud Mary** — Our Bloody Mary with Thai chili and rainbow salt rim
- ◆**Love Wins** — Champagne cocktail with butterfly pea and passion fruit

Each purchase contributes 50 baht to our charity partner.
Beyond the Party
Pride at TWIST isn't just about one month. It's about creating a space where everyone feels comfortable year-round. That means:
- ◆**Training staff** on inclusive language and practices
- ◆**Displaying visible signage** that signals welcome
- ◆**Hiring diversely** and promoting equitably
- ◆**Supporting local organizations** beyond June
Q: Is Phuket safe for LGBTQ+ travelers?
Thailand, while not perfect, is generally one of Asia's most tolerant destinations. In tourist areas like Phuket, same-sex couples can hold hands and show affection without issue. The culture tends toward "live and let live."
That said, legal protections still lag behind social acceptance. Marriage equality was still being debated in parliament as of early 2026, though progress seems likely.
Stories from the Rooftop
Over the past few Junes, we've witnessed some beautiful moments:
A couple from Singapore who'd never felt comfortable being openly affectionate while traveling — they held hands across the table all night, giddy with the freedom.
A local Thai man who brought his parents to the Pride Gala, introducing them to his partner of three years for the first time. His mother cried; his father ordered champagne.
A group of friends from Bangkok who've made the Pride Rooftop Gala their annual tradition — same weekend, same corner table, different cocktails each year.
An Invitation
Whether you identify as LGBTQ+ or simply support the community, you're welcome at TWIST this June. Come for the cocktails, stay for the sunsets, and celebrate the simple truth that love — in all its forms — deserves to be witnessed from the best vantage point in town.
Q: Do I need to be LGBTQ+ to attend Pride events?
Absolutely not. Allies are essential to progress, and celebration is more fun when shared widely. Our events welcome everyone who comes with an open heart.
Pride Month events run throughout June. Check our Instagram @twistphuket for specific dates and times. The Pride Rooftop Gala (June 29) requires advance tickets — available at the venue or online.
